Wow, what a wonderful book! The writing is lovely, the story is magical, and it's a great discussion book for a book club. It is in my top 10 of books read in 2014 and I can't believe I didn't read it sooner. I highly recommend this book. ...more

Darling fairy tale! With an older couple, Mabel and Jack, who lost their own child 10 years earlier at birth, they build a "snow child" one night in a moment of laughter and love. As sad as it is happy, like many fairy tales, this book is a wonderful read. Can you be happy without the sadness? Can you have good without bad. Not only is this book a fairy tale it is also the lesson in life that we all learn. You have to have the bad with the good to know the and appreciate the good. Written beautifully, you can feel the cold and the snow and the isolation, and yet you can see the beauty in all of it.
