A solid mystery that (just barely) introduces Karen Pirie. Four university students stumble upon a dying girl right before the Christmas holidays. They try to save her but she dies and the four find themselves as suspects. The perspective changes among characters throughout the book so you know that they are keeping secrets but there are enough hints to allow the reader to determine the true culprit before the end.
