Vera visits a local prison and meets up with an old nemesis: John Brace, a bent copper who also happened to be good friends with Vera's father, along with two other men who called themselves the Gang of Four. Brace tells her that he knows what happened to Robbie Marshall, one of the Four who had disappeared years before.
