More of a novella, the story shows glimpses into the life of Gretel Samuelson. Gretel's parents' marriage is on the rocks, her mother is sick, her brilliant and handsome brother drifts away from his future at Harvard. Hoffman takes very ordinary lives and problems and imbues them with a sense of wonder and magic, as always.
