Westover's account of her childhood growing up in a fundamentalist Mormon family in rural Idaho was difficult to read. They literally were always preparing for the End of Days, burying fuel tanks and rifles, and stockpiling food and water. The seven children were taken out of school or, in the case of the youngest children, never sent.
