This is one of the most beautiful and startling books I've ever read in a long time. I read it furtively in one day. It will probably have a permanent place on my bookshelf. The story is about a pair who meet in an unnamed Middle Eastern city. Life is good. They have all of the accouterments that one would expect in a wealthy Western city, and then war strikes.
