Upon re-reading this, I think less of the heroine Anne Elliott than in former times. She is persuaded by her friend Lady Russell, who stands in place of a mother to Anne, to break off an engagement with a young navy officer, Frederick Wentworth because he doesn't have much money and doesn't come from a distinguished family.
