It has been many years since I first read this book. It starts out slowly but picks up once the Dashwoods get to Barton Cottage. I enjoy Austen's skewering of her society's worst foibles, the obsession with wealth and social position. I failed to see the point of Willoughby's apology other than to set the stage for Austen to make an even finer point of how people are not just one thing but composed of both virtues and flaws which make their behavior fluctuate unpredictably and force us to keep r ...more
