Dashner sure knows how to pump a book full of fast moving adrenaline flowing scenes. There are quite a few scenes where you simply can not take your eyes off the page. The last 50 pages, especially, end with a huge bang. This is a satisfying final book.
There are significant characters arcs in this book. Thomas is pushed to the edge of sanity and humanity several times. When he kills Newt and Janson, Thomas has to do things The Death Cure is the final book in James Dashners' Maze Runner series. The last 50 pages, especially, end with a huge bang. This is a satisfying final book.
There are significant characters arcs in this book. Thomas is pushed to the edge of sanity and humanity several times. When he kills Newt and Janson, Thomas has to do things that he never asked for. When he sees Teresa and everyone else in the final group of Immunes die, he sees things that no one should see. Thomas saw savagery at its worst in Denver, as well. The amount of times Thomas escaped death got a little high but he is a hero so whatever. I think that the scenes in Denver and the Crank Palace are some of the most descriptive in the trilogy. The reader is instantly transported to the Crank Palace filled with Cranks past the Gone. There are certain parts where the characters are just sitting around during these scenes- this can be said about the entire book as well- but I think the novel keeps a nice pace and effectively answers all the questions that were established in the original Maze Runner novel. Teresa has a full character arc as well. I constantly questioned Teresa's motives. Dashner did a great job of establishing her as an unpredictable person throughout the trilogy. Her past wrongdoing's are forgiven when she sacrifices herself for Thomas. Minho, Jorge and Brenda are all complete, interesting and well written characters. Minho is just a beast. Newt's fate kills me. I love the journey Newt goes through. The twist that there are non Immunes in the test group makes total sense to me. Seeing the rational Newt slowly go insane and become less of who he was is compelling. Arguably the most compelling scene of the entire trilogy is when Newt and Thomas see each other on the highway. Thomas eventually kills Newt out of compassion, but Newt screaming, "Kill Me!" is an amazing scene. Newt is a great character. I enjoyed the reemergence of Gally made total sense. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. The enemy of everyone was WICKED. I liked that Janson died at the hands of Thomas in a fit of blind rage, but the shear number of different threats at the end seemed to be too much. With Grievers, Janson (more than once), the Maze and the explosions might have been one too many threats. I thought the reiteration of the Maze was smart and I liked that Chancellor Paige actually came into the book for once and saved Thomas. I also thought that the ending of the group in paradise was appropriate. After so much death and destruction, they deserved a break and a fresh start. Thomas finally ended up with Brenda which was also a nice touch although the amount of Brenda could've been cut back a little. I thought that adding that WICKED purposely let the Flare disease out on the final page was cheap. Also I liked the tone of the book, it was much darker. I have seen a lot of reviewers say that this book and the tone are too dark and the book itself is not as good as the other two and I have to disagree. This book stands up to the Scorch Trials well. I also do not mind the oppressive tone. There is not much happiness and things to be positive about in the Maze Runner world. There is a disease killing tons of people. I am glad Dashner addressed this dread. Sure there were a few plot holes but I enjoyed Dashner's writing and the book. Overall it was a thrilling, enthralling read that is a solid addition and final book to the fantastic Maze Runner trilogy. ...more

A talented group of teenagers have to find a way to cure the disease that is wiping out the whole world. They will have to chose between different people and who to trust, or the whole human race could go extinct. Time is running out, and only a few remaining people who are immune to the disease can try to stop this catastrophe.
