Truly a classic science fiction. And this is one where no one will ask, "Where is the science?"
Verne mixes fact with fiction, and the book is aptly named; it is the journey itself that is the true story. ...more

Shelves: literature

For some reason this story didn't stir up my adventurous spirit. I guess it all felt sort of pointless, really. They just spend 200 pages walking downhill. There is never any real drama and I guess the characters didn't generate a whole lot of empathy on my part. Maybe I just react better to stories that are more character-driven. Here, we have a stoned dude from Iceland, a bipolar German professor and a overly dramatic, very sceptic nephew. Seriously, he doesn't even seem to have a job, or stud ...more

I foolishly thought this book would be boring, I was so wrong! I loved it, great story, great writer. I discover again and again the reason the classics are classic.
