What Members Thought

There are instances in this book where Tolstoy's knowledge of humanity truly shines. In his accurate depiction of jealousy, in the feelings he describes of a husband whose wife is giving birth, in the effortless way some people can unite everyone else, one can tell that Tolstoy has lived because he writes life. However, I found the plot of the story mostly dull or non-existent. It was a labor to finish.
