“What’s this bird, this falcon, that everybody’s all steamed up about?”
I remember watching the film with Humphrey Bogart years ago, and finally got a chance to read Hammett’s classic crime novel featuring Sam Spade. After reading, I must say that will go against the grain and say that I like the film slightly better. While there are definitive staples of the genre here, over all I feel somewhat perplexed by the legendary status that this book has garnered.

I am impressed. I thought this was going to be a cheesy detective novel.
It is surprisingly well written and I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

Despite the large quantities of it that I've been reading the last couple of months, I'm actually not a big mystery reader. And truthfully, this probably isn't a book I would have picked up on my own. It's a group-read for one of the classics groups here on Goodreads.
