This book was always on my TBR list but during my reading of 'Norwegian Wood', Murakami stating this book as the protagonist's all-time favorite had my interest piqued for this book.
The Great Gatsby is a story of an ambitious dreamer whose one wish in life is to get the girl he loves back and for it to be what it once was in the past. His story is narrated by a young man, whose defining trait is his morality and tolerance. I really admired Nick's character.

This is the classic story of The Great Gatsby. Jay Gatsby, the mysterious playboy of the 1920s, is reunited with his former love, Daisy Buchanan, who is now married to Tom. Narrated by Gatsby's neighbor Nick, the story tells of the great parties Gatsby would host and the trysts between friends and lovers.

People keep telling me they like this story but don't actually tell me why.
It's books like this that make me miss my 10th grade English teacher.

If I thought I missed something while actually reading it the first time I'm not sure what I was expecting to pick up through an audiobook.
Apparently I didn't actually miss anything, just the English teacher. ...more

I read The Great Gatsby many years ago, and thanks to an April book club selection, I dusted off my high school copy and re-read this classic tale. Wow! What an amazing piece of literature.
The story is set in Long Island in the midst of the roaring 1920's, a time full of economic prosperity. As seen through the eyes of Nick Carraway, F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote a story of greed, affairs, forgotten love, lies, deceit, friendships, and deaths.

I read this book in anticipation of the movie coming out in a few weeks. I was surprised at how quickly I read this book. I usually have trouble reading books written in the 20s or around that time. The writing was easy to read. I didn't like how mysterious Gatsby was. He really got on my nerves to be honest with you. It was sad at the end to see how few friends he actually had though. I am looking forward to watching the movie now. Definitely recommend reading this classic.
