What Members Thought
Another classic book finished .. Yay .. and it was very good. Portraying a kid's life in a southern town during 1930's or 40's which was full of racism etc. and the efforts of their single father to help them see the world in a better light.
I loved the book. Definitely worth reading and all the accolades it got.
People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything ...more

I wish Harper Lee had written more books...
Conveys the truth of life in simple and hence memorable words. Societies have changed, but the class wars go on. Race, religion, economic status, castes, creeds, genders, sexuality... you name it. Be it a democracy or autocracy or a capitalist / socialist power, those who are powerful have always and always oppressed others....

Late to the party with this one. I was never even asked to read this book in school. Not sure that I would have appreciated it so much at a high school age.
The first 1/3rd of the book moves pretty slow. But eventually becomes a quick moving coming of age story for a pair of brother and sister youngsters growing up in the '30s. With a lawyer as a father, they achieve some extra exposure into the shortcomings of our society; and come to learn how evil the world can become. ...more
