Kazuo Ishiguro has a wonderful mastery on language and uses it with a quiet subtlety. I watched a short video of him discussing this book and what he spoke about is exactly why I loved the book. He put these young characters in a terrible situation, reminiscent of the story in Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. But we didn't see escape attempts, or horrible abuses. Beautifully, achingly written. The matter of fact manner the "donor" system is referred to makes it extra creepy. However, the vagueness, which is intriguing at first, eventually becomes tiresome and dull. In fact, for all the luridness of the premise, the plot is surprisingly flat. I guess I like my storylines more vivid and punchy.

I was sure that because I've already seen the movie, the book will not affect me. Oh, I was so wrong. I am still not ready to talk about it.
I need to watch the film again and see how they compare, but as of right now, the essence of it was captured in the film - although I forgot details, but that was good because it was almost like the story was new to me when I read the book.
