While the least favorite Dicken's novel I have read, it's still a good book and one that I liked. I just didn't love it like the others.
Reading it makes me grateful we no longer live in a world where poor people are forced into workhouses to die in misery. The abuse Oliver suffered was difficult for me to read. gosh I enjoyed this. I had pretty low expectations because so many Dickens fans said it was their least liked dickens novel. The descriptions at times really gave me the sense that I was there. I think the thing you most need to do is to expect Oliver Twist himself is not the main character. Other characters are really as important as he is. So be prepared to not see him through large portions of the novel. Some parts of this novel are grisly. At times, it really is a monstrous book.
This is only my second book I've read by Dickens. I really loved it. I had some idea of what Oliver Twist was about but it was much more than that. It was more exciting than expected.
