Remember that essay of Mark Twain's where he's bashes Cooper for the irrationality of Indians missing a huge, extremely slow moving steamboat as it drifts down the river? Yeah. there's huge holes in the logic like that. Well, not quite that bad, but it's getting there.
But still, suspend all disbelief, and the book is lighthearted and fun. There was a lot of elements that seemed a bit derivative at first -- until I realized that this book was probably the creator of most of the "pirate" tropes. ...more
