Maybe its lockdown but I've recently been tapping out of books early, i just have no desire to invest time and emotions only to have some tragic soliloquy at the end where the heroine sits alone crying 'i looooooved you'. ...more

When I first picked up this book, I was rather expecting a tawdry melodrama of a love affair between a young woman and a priest. It turned out to be so much better! The multi-generational saga followed the lives of the Cleary family, the children as they grew into adulthood, and then their children as they grew. Though the "love affair" played a role, it seemed like the real story was in the depth and detail of the family members as they carved a life for themselves in the harsh climate of Austr ...more
