I am actually shocked by this play! Shakespeare is of course no stranger to tragic tales but this is so twisted and cruel that I found myself equally fascinated and outraged.
Simply put, Iago is the most wretched and loathsome character I have ever come across and makes all other villains pale in comparison. I did NOT like this play. The language isn't fun or pretty, and the story is horrific. Reading this immediately after Romeo and Juliet means I also can't help but compare them, and I just feel like Romeo and Juliet has so much more depth to the story, language, themes, and overall feel.
