More like 1 1/2 stars, if that. I reserve 1 star for books I actively loathe and I didn't loathe this. Instead, I was bored. I don't understand why this is such a famous story. I read lots of classic novels so it wasn't because I found the syntax or vocabulary difficult or strange. I'm not a big fan of short stories so maybe that's the reason for my tepid response? I had high expectations for this one and I think that it suffered for it. I have seen movies at times long after everyone else in the world ... movies which everyone raves about ... and I end up disappointed. I think my reaction to this story is similar to my reaction to those movies. They simply cannot live up to my hopes.
