Required reading. This modern masterpiece deals with a group of children stranded on an island. Without grown ups and the order they represent, the children, far from being innocent, devolve into savages. The ending is brilliant for it takes place during the war. Golding said it best and I paraphrase: the adults have saved the children, but being in a war themselves, who will intervene to save the adults?
