This book is the February 2016 short read for Catching up on the Classics. I read it early. Sorry. This story is very strange to me. It took a very long time to get started, then at the end it finally did get started. The main character is called away when his mother dies. He goes to the funeral and nothing much happens. Then he gets involved with a stranger that lives in this building. This guy he meets is being watched by people. One thing leads to another and suddenly his murders someone. All ...more

This is a story of apathy. A man that has no concept of right or wrong. Who thinks that life is meaningless. He likes the pleasures but doesn't count them as meaning anything. Has no concept of God or even morality. Live in the moment for the moment won't last, seems to be his motto. He commits a senseless murder and then goes to a senseless trial only to be convicted and sentenced to have his senseless life snuffed out. ...more
