I don't usually like horror books, but gothic fiction is a subgenre that strongly appeals to me. That's what I was looking for when I came across Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. I wanted to read something comparable to The Gargoyle, and this book came pretty close. The beautiful writing is perfect for lovers of literary fiction, but I imagine it can also appeal to fan-fiction readers.
