Coming back to and re-reading Wilkie Collin’s The Moonstone is like coming back to an old friend. I was introduced to this author and novel years ago, and I have been pretty hooked on reading Collins ever since. Although Collins has many other brilliant longer novels (No Name, Armadale, The Woman in White), The Moonstone is probably the best known of the bunch. At the root of The Moonstone is a mysterious and highly sought after diamond.

I'm not a huge cozy mystery fan, but I really enjoyed this novel.
I loved Betteridge and Miss Clack. The Robinson Crusoe references were hilarious (even though I personally didn't care for the book) as was Miss Clack's constant proselytizing. ...more

Although I did find this to be a page-turner once I get into it, I did struggle at first to find it as such. I am so glad I was able to persevere though. Many times since i have found myself chuckling at what I realize is a "Moonstone" reference. I admire Mr.Collins creativity in starting a genre which then became a long-standing favorite.
