This book starts off with a bang. The first 3 pages are just about as perfect as you can get in a thriller/mystery. Grim, shocking and full of tension. Unfortunately, it's all downhill from there.

The prose is plain and utilitarian and dull. I'm going to chalk that up to the translation. The characters are all unlikable. Every woman's body is described in terms of disgust; you'd think the book was written by a misogynist old man. The plot seems like it's going to build to something but...nothing.
