It's just such a good series, and this book has to be like the best book in 2008. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I recently fnished the last book in the trilogy, Mockingjay, and it's even better than this. This book is just so original, and it manages to include everything, from romance to action to thriller to comedy to depressing - ness if thats even a word. Best series!

Ok I might as well go into some depth about this. Well firstly, the only books that have ever caused me to cry, laugh and stop and take a deep breath my heart is racing so much are the Harry Potter books. This book is amazing in the way that it can actually physically make me feel numb all over etc. when it's katniss who's experiencing it. The way it's written makes you feel it like it's actually happening. Ever since we were little, we were taught that a good narrative gives you a mental picture of whats going on. Well then this has to be a 1000 times good narrative because not only does it give you a mental picture, but you can feel it, hear it, smell it all around you. For the little time that you read it you're transported into that world. It's amazing because the world is so different to now in this book, that normally you would find it very hard to believe, and very hard to explain. But this book explains it so perfectly that you won't be left with any doubt that it is a real world, and not make believe.
Also, ever fallen impossibly in love with a story book character, and found yourself dreaming about them, wishing they were actually alive over and over again. Well I officially have. yeh so I likedd Edward Cullen, he was pretty hot, caring... etc. But this has just been brought to a whole new level - with Peeta Mellark, the boy from district 12 who was chosen along with Katniss. I loooove him, like literally, just the perfect guy in my books. He'd throw down his life in a second to save Katniss and he's also increeedibly hot.

Ok well I've rambled on for long enough, but hoefully you get the picture that this is not a book to miss. You need need neeeeed to read it, and then the two books that come after, Catching Fire, and the Mockingjay. Just the best series ou've ever read, I guarantee it. :) ...more

The hunger games starts off with our main character, Katniss. It tells us of her daily life inside District 12. We learn of how hard it is to live in the time that she does, with very little resources and extreme poverty. We also learn about the reaping.

It was no surprise when Katniss took her sister Prim's spot in The Games, since Katniss really does love her family more than anything. And so starts Katniss' journey, that she must complete. There's only two ways it can end: Winni Where to start?

The relationship of Katniss and Peeta (the other person nominated for The Games) is a tumultious one. Because she has to pretend she is in love with him to survive in the games, Peeta is put into a false reality. I didn't like that so much, because I'm not fond of going behind people's backs and giving people a false sense of things, but it helped both Peeta and Katniss survive the games, so I guess it's good for that reason.

I was very surprised at the end of the book when Katniss and Peeta heard that the 'rules' had changed. As an explanation: In the middle of the book, the Game Masters said that they had changed the rules so that the two nominees from each district could team up and win. Because of that, Katniss went to go find Peeta (who was extremely close to dying) and nursed him back to health. They were the last two people standing in the area, and should have won, but the Game Masters came back on and said that their was a change (again) in the rules, and that they were wrong to say that both could win in the first place.

Which means that one of them had to die.

It was a clever thing, when they both decided to put the poision berries in their mouths. I knew that those were going to be used for something!

All in all, I'm happy with the way this book was written, and I love the characters. It deserves it's 5 stars because it is a book that truly is unique. This theme has never been done before. The characters are believeable, and their struggle for survival is heart-wrenching. ...more

The Hunger Games Trilogy is officially declared the best series out of all books written(yes, it's better than harry potter and twilight) by me, and i read ALOT of books.I am yet to read a book more interesting, suspenseful, emotional, and more...I don't know how many tears i've shed over these books...Especially Mockingjay. Suzanne Collins had me hooked. She's amazing. I'm starting to think she's even a better writer than J.K Rowling...and I've been a die-hard Harry Potter fan until a week ago ...more

OMG BEST TRILOGY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KATNISS AND PEETA 4EVER!!!!!!! looooooved the book!!!! i got it from my sis's xbf and started at 9:30 at night. didnt sleep AT ALL!!! finished 3:00 in the morning!!!!! my book club is starting this book next month and we cant wait. i've already got most of my friends hooked on the series and got my bff mockingjay for xmas!!!! <3 :) ...more

its a great book , though the first few chapters were rather dull the plat is incredible ! i love it , the romance and adventure and even the fight for survival on this so called survival camp ! yet , i recommmend it to anyone who is looking for a book that gives you a great and adventourausa time !
