Well this story took an unexpected twist. Picking up soon after Melody is told her mother has died and she accepts a job with the artist Kenneth who she is convinced is her real father Melody soon learns he is not and thinks he's falling in love with her. All this fantasy comes crashing down when Holly, Kenneth's hippie dippy astrology loving on and off girlfriend arrives. Hurt at first Melody and Holly soon become friends and practice meditation together and swap crystals. Melody does learn who Well this story took an unexpected twist. Melody does learn who her grandfather is though but her father's identity seems to have died with her mother. The friendship between Melody and Cary turns to romance cause we have to shoehorn in a romance and some incest because they are technically related just a bit more distantly than originally thought. Seriously can none of these girls find a decent man who doesn't share blood or some family connection? Or one who isn't brooding and overly intense. I think the author tried to recreate the protective loving Troy of the Casteel series and failed miserably. Also these kids are teenagers and most teenagers don't meet their one true love and stick with them forever but what do I know? Uncle Jacob has a heart attack and makes a death bed confession to Melody only to survive and never mention or give any clarification about it. He also proceeds to be a huge pain in the ass running his long suffering wife ragged and prompting Melody to decide to move out first to Kenneth's but after an intervention to Grandma Olivia's hoyse. But before that can happen a letter arrives from Alice who like Trisha from the Cutler series is the only normal person around and her news rocks Melody's world. The book ends with her heading on LA to find out the truth about her mother and possibly her real father. This one was still good. I'm actually surprised at how enjoyable these have been so far but yeah you're far too good to settle down at such a young age and especially with a brooding jealous guy like Cary is, Melody. ...more

Captivating!!

It took awhile to really get into the story itself until I realized that a lot of V.C. Andrews novels always end with a twist and when I realized I wanted to finish it to see what the twist was, I was glad I did. I held my kindle until I finished the book and was glad I did!
