Another entertaining read. I enjoyed Pearls in the Mist but not as much as Ruby. I think I loved reading about the simple life Ruby had in the bayou with Grandmere Catherine. I missed that character in this book. Grandmere Catherine was such a contrast to the character of Daphne who became Ruby’s female guardian. Fortunately, what Grandmere Catherine had instilled in Ruby as a young child remained with her and influenced her behaviour once she lived in New Orleans and at Greenwood.

Now that the lifetime movies are out, last one drops on Sunday here, I'm continuing my journey through the twisted world of the Landrys. Unlike the Cutlers I quite enjoyed both books. Ruby is a more human character than Dawn who despite growing up poor and being bullied and picked on by her sister had no common sense was too trusting and just plain dumb. Is Ruby the smartest girl?
