The story of ruby continues with her problems with her twin sister gisselle.She seems to do anything to make more trouble for ruby.with them both sent to an all girl private school.things only get worst than ruby gets a new fiend who is blind and related to the school.rubys father dies and her stepmother turns against them.

I really enjoyed Ruby the first book. I felt that this book didn't really start until the last few chapters. Having Ruby handle three different worlds and making difficult choices in each world, is a fascinating read. Cant. wait to see what happens next in All That Glitters. ...more

Now that the lifetime movies are out, last one drops on Sunday here, I'm continuing my journey through the twisted world of the Landrys. Unlike the Cutlers I quite enjoyed both books. Ruby is a more human character than Dawn who despite growing up poor and being bullied and picked on by her sister had no common sense was too trusting and just plain dumb. Is Ruby the smartest girl? Not even close, but next to Dawn she's practically a genius. Giselle whines and complains and plays victim, poor me stuck in a chair. She soon ropes their roommates into doing everything for her. Ruby makes friends with a girl called Abby who is mixed race which in the south at that time was pretty scandalous but the way she's referred to in the book kind of sounds racist but I'm not sure. While taking tea with the Claireborne family who run the school Ruby stumbles upon the matriarch's blind nephew Louis who takes an instant liking to her. Maybe too much so. Ruby also forms a bond with her art teacher Miss Stevens whose an obvious lesbian again very taboo for the time. Giselle makes life hell for everyone there including sexual assault on one of the girls and does all she can to get thrown out of the school mostly by throwing Ruby under the bus. Their father dies, Daphne gets more awful and hooks up with the business partner probably while poor Pierre was still on his death bed if not sooner. She also gets Uncle Jean tossed out of his private room into the ward and sharply declines. They return to school right after the funeral. In true 90s soap opera fashion Giselle teaches herself to walk again with no outside help from professionals, nearly gets Ruby expelled and most likely gets Miss Stevens fired for her lesbian ways. Then Ruby learns she's pregnant gets kicked out of school and after Daphne was her usual self runs back to the bayou to have her baby. This was as crazy as the others. Some eye roll moments but definitely more readable than Dawn. At least I didn't want to smack some sense into Ruby every other page, maybe just once a chapter, so that's something. ...more
