Thanks for the recommendation, Kate.
This was a compelling story, which I read in just a few days. I liked reading about homesteading in Alaska and the particular details of life and culture in the 1970s, my coming of age era. The father (Ernt) was dark and one-dimensional which was depressing, but I think the author made him that way so that the reader had complete and utter sympathy for his mother and daughter. I kept thinking the plot would go to predictable places, but it kept surprising me.

Great narrative with strong chapters and focus on domestic abuse and POW’s PTSD. Doesn’t entice me to visit Alaska though.
