I believe even a bad story can be an excellent book if it's written well. The Power is an excellent story that lacks some story-telling charm.
There were a lot of things I liked about this book, but I tend to judge books based on writing style and the ability to create tone and tension, and to a lesser degree, the story. I wanted to like this - the first 100ish pages blew me away. Women finding their powers, sharing them, protecting each other - awesome.
Then it slowed down, the plot got murkier and the characters' intentions and behaviors got less understandable. I cringed through the final letter exchange, just because it was delivered like WHAT A TWIST- SEE! THIS IS A TWIST! but mostly I just wanted to be done reading it.
