I enjoyed listening to the audiobook edition of “Carnegie,s Maid.” The main characters, Clara Kelly, Andrew Carnegie and his mother, were well drawn as were the period and setting in Pittsburgh around the time of the Civil War. Comparing to “The Other Einstein”, Benedict’s previous work of historical fiction, though, this one falls short. It’s a leap to imagine Carnegie smitten by his mother’s lady’s maid and that her powerful influence motivated his philanthropy, but the imaginative possibility ...more
