[close] This was an imaginative piece of historical fiction; while not impressively written in particular, still an engaging read. I found the characters and story somewhat flat and predictable, but the overall theme of the book, the treatment of orphans in the early 1900s, was of enough interest to lift it up as a worthwhile and absorbing readable insight into an aspect of our country's history.
