After thinking on it for a couple of days, I've decided to give the (in)famous script a down-the-middle three-star rating.
In general terms, I liked the chemistry between the two young protagonists, as well as their individual characters and their relationships with their parents. I stay in the middle, not as bad as everyone claims, not as good as a regular Harry Potter book. Of course the play must be spectacular, I hope they release it on dvd one day, but as a book is not as endearing... You miss a bunch.

I was a bit disappointed with this book. The style feels like Rowling had very little to do with the actual writing; it seems as though Thorne was attempting to replicate her humor and tone, and the attempt fell flat. I couldn't help feeling as though I was reading a parody rather than an 8th Harry Potter book. If Rowling had written this story in novel form, I think I would have loved it.
