Review from 2013

C for narration/C for content

I found this rather a difficult book to rate, because it’s quite unlike most of the other historical romances I’ve read or listened to. At times, I almost forgot I was listening to a romance because there were so many uncomfortable moments that made it almost too realistic to be termed a romance.

That’s not to be taken as a damning criticism, however. I think that Ms. James has touched on something in Once Upon a Tower, which is actually very honest an

This was a wonderful read.

I just loved how Gowan was so orderly & logical but took one look at Edie.....and that was it. He knew she was the one & was not going to mess around with courting her but claim her right away!

Then to find out poor Edie didn't even remember him & now is betrothed to him, was too funny! They have many surprises ahead of them as they get to know each other & expand their thinking.

A joy to read....you will have to read it yourself to find out the reference to the fairy tal

Beautiful story about two people who find love can help them become better people. The duke is very regimented. He abhors wasting time and is constantly working. He does not make rash decisions about anything until he comes face to face with Lady Edith at a ball and falls hard. Within a day he has her as his betrothed.

Lady Edith only feels truly alive when she is playing her cello. Her music makes her feel alive and means everything to her. On the night of the ball she dances with the Duke twic

I have to admit, as much as I love Eloisa James and her books, especially this Fairy Tale series, I did not love this book so much. I had a very hard time connecting to both the characters and the ensuing story although I had initially found the storyline itself intriguing. The entire story seemed to hinge on the fact that none of the characters, though outspoken during various portions of the book, failed to be able to open up to the ones they loved the most. It was just sad.

I do recommend the

It was a lovely read but not as good as 'When Beauty Tamed The Beast'. The characters was very lovely to read and oh wow, I love the scenes when it's almost at the ending and throughout it until the end. Again, Eloisa James didn't disappoint me with this one but I just thought it could've been better. ...more

Eloisa James writes wonderful books. That fact is evident again in Once Upon a Tower. It is a sweet story of relationships, misunderstandings and adjustments. Not a lot happens -- just the evolution of a marriage between two people who don't really know each other. Touching ending. Very nice book. ...more
