I finished this book last night and almost didn't want to put it down. When I first heard Ms. James was taking on The Princess and the Pea fairy tale, I wondered how she would pull it off. I should have known she'd do it well. I loved the heroine Olivia immediately. She's sarcastic and vulgar (for the time period) and described as "fleshy". Something to which I can relate. An absolute stunning read!
When you think Eloisa could not exceed herself, she goes and writes a most breathtaking story between two star-crossed lovers who- to the audience's delight- uncross their stars.
Quin is an irresistible hero who you can't help but adore, in spite of his tongue-tied logic. The fact that is he is attracted to the likes of Olivia, a woman the opposite of all he is, adds to the story a richness. You want them to be thrown together, just to see what would happen. 4 stars and not more because the beginning was reaaaaaaally slow and the last 50 pages were not very interesting
I really loved Olivia and her humour and Quin was nice, but their romance didn't make me hold my breath for the entire book ...more

This is the first time I'm giving a 1 star rating to an Eloisa James book. Can I just tell you all that i've read the entire series of Desperate Duchesses and enjoyed a whole lot. I went on to read the fairytales series, and I enjoyed A Kiss at Midnight and When Beauty Tamed the Beast. I am very sad to say that The Duke is Mine was a disappointment for me. I couldn't quite get into the characters... The plot line seemed sort of repetitive and predictable... And I stopped at 80%, because I just c
