Another very enjoyable read by Julie Quinn. I'm trying to get through her backlist and this is book 2.
The heroine, Belle, was introduced in book 1, Splendid. She is staying at the country estate of her cousin, Emma, the heroine from the previous book, and her new husband, Alex, a duke. I finally have all 4 of the books that cover the Blydon series so I'm now getting around to reading these first published books by Julia Quinn.
I enjoyed the book and the characters but it's obvious that this is an early work. John, our hero, has too many I love you - you must stay away from me moments. And I seriously doubt that Belle would be able to climb a three-story tree & manage to get in through a window when she's never climbed a tree before in her life.

Not one of Quinn's best, but it's important to note it's a very early novel of hers. She has improved out of sight from this one. A blue-stocking heroine who lacks commonsense and an unevenly drawn hero. He limps through this one without a great deal of conviction. Quinn never fails to charm, and there's some clever dialogue we've come to expect from the author, but a disregard for Regency conventions, especially relating to the heroine's parents, drew me out of the story at times.
