Not one of the best I've ever read. Oddly, the writing itself was pretty good, but the subject matter and plot were weak and implausible. There's very little Christmas to the book, and an odd fascination with chess, both as a game and a euphemism for more intimate activities.

The first book in the series had a much more likeable main character. Poppy was just too naive to the point of it being unbelievable and slightly annoying at times but ultimately this was a great book and I can't wait to start the 3rd book. ...more
