I've given this a C+ for narration and C for content at AAR.
I remember reading the other two books in this trilogy several years ago, but for some reason hadn’t read the first, Potent Pleasures, so listening to this new audiobook version seemed like a good idea. Unfortunately, it proved to be a disappointing experience overall, as the story relies too heavily on the fact that the main characters just don’t TALK to each other. The Bad: If the hero hadn't been such an ass, maybe this book would have been better, but he was such an ass that he almost killed her, literally. Not to mention all the highly improbable ways in which the mother of the girl and the girl herself react to this situation: a duke's daughter loses her virginity at sixteen in a garden at a scandalous party to a man of slightly lesser rank than her father. Actually 3 1/2 stars and it would have been more if I hadn't hated the hero by his third rejection and blowup at poor Ciharlotte. Sure, Alex had a hor rible first wife, but sheesh, you would think he would have listened at least. It almost felt like the old Harlequins I used to read since it had ke crying for Charlotte repeatedly. Kleenex needed for this one! Liked the heroine, but couldn't like the "hero" or his temper issues.
