I AM NUMBER FOUR by Pittacus Lore. No, that's not a real person. I'm going to do everyone a big favor for those who haven't read this book yet. Watch the movie and burn the book. Sometimes there is just no fixing stupid, which is what this book is full of.

I recieved this book as a goodreads first reads giveaway.

I really enjoyed this book. I was worried that it wouldn't be able to live up to all the hype. They are already making a movie out of it, the author Pittacus Lore is giving crazy interviews to EW (http://shelf-life.ew.com/2010/07/16/an-out-there-interview-with-pittacus-lore-the-alien-author-of-i-am-number-four/ )and the press is already unbelievable and the book isn't even out yet. Again, I was worried. I shouldn't have been.

I inhaled this book. I literally read it in a matters of hours. My eyes just ran across the pages taking anything and everything in. This book had everything in it. Action, adventure, love, fighting, and even the constant on the run from something that keeps following you was one that keep me on my toes.

Are aliens the new vampires? I hope not. Because aliens' have a whole new hotness and mystery to them. And I do hope that I am not influenced by the upcoming movie. But I have to admit, and hopefully will serve as a warning to fellow Alex Pettyfer fans out there, that I was initially distracted reading the book because I can't help but see Alex as John Smith. I think I should have read the book before the trailer came out. But nonetheless, the book was awesome.

I think I should have read the book before the trailer came out. But nonetheless, the book was awesome.

After a series of events, Number Four and his guardian (or Cepan), Henri were lead to a small town in Paradise, Ohio where he assumes the identity of John Smith. He's feeling a bit weary of moving now and he hopes that they will stick longer in this place than they have in their previous places. Especially now that he begins to realize that he can build a life here - where he finds a friend, got interested in a girl, and thinks that maybe (and hopefully) they can keep things quiet here. But things will not go down as quiet as John would like. He is hunted and they will stop at nothing to bring his kind down - along with everyone else who will stood in their plans.

There are a lot of terms here that you have to be familiar with as you go along. Terms like legacies and cepan. They will be introduced early in the book so as not to get confused. As well as the initial back story of how number four and the rest of the Loriens came to Earth, who are hunting them, and why are we supposed to be concern in the battle.

I love the concept of the book as a true account of the Loriens. Citing alien theories and conspiracies, and even the author, Pittacus Lore is somehow a part of all this. The name is only a pseudonym of two authors collaborating for this book. One of which, is a bit controversial and the other a relatively unknown. But then again, plus points for the idea.

There is so much to write about this book but I'm afraid I might give to much away. Part of reading this book is the mystery, the adrenaline, and the pain you have to share with Number Four. The pain of losing so much in your life, sacrifices (to be) made, and in the end knowing that you are to fight and win not just for your survival but for the legacy of your kind.

I am not banging my head against the wall that I have to wait for the next book, The Power of Six. Because honestly, I think the break would give me time to recover from the events in this book. And believe me when I say the end would probably leave you needing a sort of emotional support like I did. ...more

I Am Number Four is a fast-paced book involving aliens and the world's impending doom. I would have to say that I definitely enjoyed this book. It was a fun read full of action and adventure, but I feel like it was written to be a movie especially since the movie was pretty much filmed before the book even came out. Nevertheless, if you like science fiction and aliens, then you will like this book. I did find it to be a bit predictable though. Everything that I thought would happen did.

I waited a bit to read this book so that I could read it closer to the date when the movie would be released. I wished I would have read it sooner, its great. Now though the down side is waiting for the next book in the series. The author which I would love to meet in person and talk with, sounds like he would be a interesting person to chat with. I think it was a great move to start the book by stating that the events in this book are real. Talk about making you question if that were to be true I waited a bit to read this book so that I could read it closer to the date when the movie would be released. The storyline is very entertaining, I can see why they made it into a movie. I didn't find the book slow at all, everything was very well balanced. The fact that you feel that you are on the run with the character keeps you on your toes and turning the pages quickly. I actually at one point read the book while eating dinner at the table with my family. I needed to know! If you are in for some wicked reading then this book is for you.

John is the main character, he is Number Four. John and his caretaker Henri realize that he is next. John gets marked when others are killed. So he now has 3 rings around his ankle, so of course Henri and John are extremely worried. They have been in Earth for 10 years always on the run. They end of moving again from Florida to Paradise, OH. John is at a point were he is tired of relocating. He wants to fight back but he knows until his legacies (powers) come in he can't. Once they are settled in OH John gets his first legacy and during school. Once Henri knows of this, they actually begin training John and hoping this will trigger his other legacies wake up in him. During all this John makes a friend Sam and also gets girlfriend Sarah. We also meet the dog that showed up one day and adopted John, he is called Bernie Kozar. I fell in love with Bernie immediately. Lets just says he is more than what meets the eye. So now certain actions have taken place with John and the enemies are closing in. Will John be ready to fight off the enemy? Pick up the book before the movie comes out and read to figure it out.

The talk is this is the 1st book in a 6-part series. The Power of Six is the next installment in the series and I can't wait to read it.
