I don't know if this is the last of the Dark Hunter books - it may be, but there's definitely openings for more (right, Nick?). This one was definitely different!

Acheron was actually like two books in one. The first book (as in the first 400 pages) was a big piece of Acheron's backstory. Since he's lived for 11,000 years, it's easy to see how it would take up so many pages! However, I have to admit, that I didn't need quite that much description and violence to get that Ash's trust had been betr I don't know if this is the last of the Dark Hunter books - it may be, but there's definitely openings for more (right, Nick?). This one was definitely different!

However, I have to admit, that I didn't need quite that much description and violence to get that Ash's trust had been betrayed by everyone he met. I could have done with oh, only 200 pages or so of that, I think. I would probably liked to have seen more of his interaction through the years with Apollymi...but maybe there was more of that in the books I skipped (I didn't do the Were or Dreamhunter books).

The present-day love story started in the third section, which seemed to me like it could have stood on it's own. Tori is a great character - but being so young but knowing how to do so many things with weapons, motorcycles and parachutes made her a little hard to relate to at times. AND she had time to get her doctorate by age 22? hmmmm.

Yeah, I know, how realistic is a 11,000 year old god who walks around killing Daimons? He's not - but the appeal of these stories is to be able to see through the heroine's eyes and fall in love with the hero with her. If she's too different, then it's harder to do that.

I did enjoy seeing Julian and Kyrian and Zarek again - they're like old friends. I'm also getting pretty sick of Artemis - someone needs to slap that girl down and strip her powers (I was hoping that would happen in this book, but no). Maybe in the next book, if there is one.

Would I buy it in hardcover? Only if it's on the sale table - it's not one I'd probably read again. I'm not sure how they'll do the paperback, though - what a brick! You definitely need to read some of the other books in the series before tackling this one - but not all of them. You can see which ones I've read on my goodreads list. ...more

Finally! I have made it to Acheron!

Acheron's past is more horrible than I could have imagined. I really thought that although it was tough to read, it was worth it to get to the bones of this character. Without Ryssa, Ash would have suffered more than what he had. Part 1= 5 stars

Acheron's present day was at times very sweet. I liked that he became flustered at not seeing the future of Tory and how he actually got a little goofy around her. (Tory was pretty great by the way) What I didn't like.. ...more

This is one long book, but to get it all in it really had to be. I decided to tackle it on audio instead of reading and it took awhile (not because of the book, but because of me), but it was well worth it in the end.

This book is comprehensive. First you get a look at Ash's past. Something I knew nothing of before. Of course Ash was the most mysterious as leader of the Dark Hunters and now I understand. I think the past was handled well and I never felt like "hurry up and get to the present", I This is one long book, but to get it all in it really had to be. I think the past was handled well and I never felt like "hurry up and get to the present", I was enthralled by Ash's backstory. It really explains so much. Then it moves forward to the now, when Ash meets Tori and they are thrown together because of the danger to her. This part was amazing as well. It felt slightly more rushed, at least in the romance department than the first part, but I was okay with that. They were thrown together in danger and there was an obvious attraction. Then there is a lot of excitement and an epilogue that has me anxious for what happens next.

I felt Ash and Tori were both well-developed in Acheron. Ash more so than Tori, but it was his book. However I did feel I got to know Tori and I really liked her. Another plus, more of Simi in this book, I love Simi!

The story is great, moving from past to present was seamless and the whole storyline kept my interest through all the hours of listening. I loved this installment to the Dark Hunters series and loved how Ms. Kenyon handled everything. I just wasn't sure how things could be done with a book about Ash before the end of the series, but now I understand (no spoilers).

I listened to the audio version and I think Holter Graham did a great job. The reader is male, but he did well changing his voice for the various roles and he did great with the female voices as well. I again especially loved Simi, I felt like he nailed her. If you are going to listen to a very long audiobook it's great to have a good narrator and he was very good. He will definitely go on my list of narrators that I enjoy.

Overall this was a great installment in the Dark Hunters series. More things were explained but more mysteries were opened as you would expect. I am anxious to play catch-up and see what happens after this book now, especially with Styx coming out soon. I am very curious to see his side of things. Acheron is an excellent book with great characters and a plot that keeps you enthralled from page 1 to page 700-something. So don't fear the large book, it's well worth your time! ...more
