Ballad starts with James and Dee at the private school for musicians. Jame's talent attracts Nuala, who just happens to be a soul snatcher (who's also a faerie muse) who finds and feeds off of those with exceptional gifts. Everyone she's been attracted to dies after she feeds on them. What neither of them excepts is to develop a relationship. I have to say that they both dish up a healthy dose of snarkiness and I love it.

After reading Lament, I NEEDED to read Ballad...I mean, well yes, I just needed to read it!
Ballad opens up right where Lament leaves off; only now James finds himself at the prestigious Thornking- Ash School for Music, only problem is, James is a Piper – and Thornking-Ash does not even have a “real” piping program.
James' decision to attend Thornking-Ash, had more to do with Dee, than with the music, he's not going to be learning. James is still in love with Dee, no matter how much she's hurt him ...more

I have to admit, I picked up BALLAD, the sequel to LAMENT because I really wanted to see more of Luke, the main male character. You would think I would be disappointed when this book was written from James' point of view. Not so! Once again Maggie Stiefvater's master storytelling draws you into the minds of bagpiper James and Nuala, his faerie follower. Their chemisty is white hot and mesmerizing. She is the perfect match for James in every way. Deidre's s ...more

This book started out a little slow for me, but half way through I was captivated. I thought we would get to see Luke again and I was a little disappointed we didn't. Judging from what Dee says about him, however, that may be for the best. I liked the resolution a lot and I also liked how smaller characters from Lament were suddenly woven into the story. It's usually nice to see a familar face.
