Really 3.5 stars

After hearing from numerous people that I needed to read this series, and knowing that Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Angel was coming soon, I gave in and moved this series to the top of my to-read list. And after the first 50 pages, I was hooked!

This book has been on the stores for quite long now and I found out that this book really is famous indeed. I was planning to get a copy of this before I was into book blogging. This was a fantastic book! It is the first I’ve read by Cassandra Clare and definitely will not the last. We are introduced to the story and the main characters in Pandemonium (very clever by the way) and get off to a great start that really had me wanting more! I was a bit confused at first about who was who and what was going on but that soon sorted it self out as Clare skillfully draws us into the story and brings the characters to life. Strangely enough, I didn't love OR hate this book. There were a lot of things I liked, but also I found myself irritated by a lot of other things.

I have read that many people found this book humorous, but I found the banter between characters was often irritating and not funny at all. It also seemed to me that everything in this book happened too quickly, and some characters were thrown together and quickly were getting along and willing to die for someone who was a total stranger to them a few ...more

This book was slow paced and dreadfully frustrating. I couldn't wait for the story to end. Keep in mind that I did the audiobook route and do NOT recommend anyone to do this. The narrator was horrible and by far the worst that I have heard yet. She sounds like she is bored (as I was listening to her) and her accents are ridiculous.
