This is the first book I've read from J.R. Ward. I think it's a good thing I have yet to read any of her Black Dagger Brotherhood books so I have no basis for comparison. I have heard that series is amazing and sensual and alot of reviews on this book have been compared to those books. I'm a clean slate :) I really enjoyed this book. The first 100 pages was a little confusing and I think it was due to the world building she was doing. The first 100 pages was a little confusing and I think it was due to the world building she was doing. I was trying to figure out exactly what was going on and getting frustrated that it wasn't coming to me right away, after the first 100 pages, the story just took off. I didn't mind all the different point of views, if anything I thought it brought more to the story. At first I wasn't sure about Vin and I thought he was selfish and cruel, but as the book progressed and you get to see all these layers of him be peeled away to the real man underneath, it was amazing to see. Marie-Terease was a down on life woman. She has had to scrape by and do what it takes to provide and protect her child. I fell in love with her character right away. Jim was by far my favorite. The story about his mother's death was tragic and we were able to see bits and pieces of who Jim was and who he is now. I loved all the F bombs and bad language. It was such a part of Jim and Vin's characters that I couldn't imagine them not usuing all that foul language. I was captivated by the good Vs evil and Devina was a big question mark to me, I couldn't figure out what she was and how she was going to play out in this story. I honestly feel like we didn't get to see enough of Devina, she plays such a pivitol part in this book, but I wanted more. More insight into who she was and what she was doing. I was left with so many question marks. How did she come to find the girl she had hanging in the bathroom? What happened with her and Adrian at the end? I wanted so much more from her character and I hope to get it in the next book. Eddie and Adrian were a blast and I really enjoyed them, but I also have so many question marks when it comes to those two that I am hoping they are also explored a little more. There were some things that kept throwing me off, I'm not sure what was going on, but words were being left out of sentences. I see this once in a while and usually don't mind. It usually makes me pause for a second, re-read the sentence to make sure I'm not seeing things and then just move on. The only thing with this book is I kept seeing it over and over again. Just small words like the, it's, and. Here's an example: "What did she tell you do?" Obviously to is missing and not a big deal, but I kept seeing this over and over again. I was just curious as if I was maybe missing something in the way they were talking. Anyways, great read. The romance in the book between Vin and Maire-Terease was a big part of the story, just not the center of it. Covet is the first book in J. R. Ward's Fallen Angels series. I've had this one on my To Read list for months and my library finally got copies of these in!! Granted, they lost their only BDB book to theft or something but I appreciate them trying to get some good books in. There is just not the appropriate level of J. R. Ward love in the world.

JR just cant go wrong!! i was a little slow in getting started on this book bc it was NOT my beloved Brothers, but wow, i love this new cast of characters just as much, though in a very different way!
Jim is a mysterious, intense, and oddly lovable man with a shady past who finds himself in a very new role.
Vin is a man in dire straights who needs to decide what to do about his current love life when a beautiful, but overly secretive woman enters it and everything is flipped upside down.

This was more than 2.5 stars.
It was really slow until the last six or so chapters.
Had a hard time with the Brotherhood references.
