WOW! that is the only word I can come up with for the first installment of The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Dark Lover. I am not a first book lover in a series, but this was one great start. Wrath, the leader of the Brotherhood was a magnificently well written character as well as all of the characters in this book.
J.R. Ward as spun a world of good versus evil, and love that makes hard unfeeling men soft and yielding. How can you not want want to be a part of a world like that?

I picked up this book because I'd heard so many people talk about the Black Dagger Brotherhood and knew I had to give it a try. It was far more paranormal romance than I normally read, but there was plenty of violence and action to keep the storyline going. The BDB boys are some very sexy, very dangerous men, which I loved. I'll certainly be reading the next book to find out what happens to the other members of the Brotherhood. ...more

Thought it was really good. Will be reading the entire series. At first I thought this was about some kind of vampires from the 80's or something with all these huge dudes, with long hair, wearing leather. I was kind of worried about beginning a book that had a little dictionary, with all the vampire lingo, in the first few pages. But it wasn't confussing. It actually added to the story, gave it history. I liked all the brothers in the brotherhood and was left wanting to read about each of them. ...more

edit 2023: Read this and a few others years ago and couldn’t remember why I stopped after a few books when there are so many highly rated books out. I thought it was okay. Maybe the newer ones are better, I’m not sure. I listened and really could t remember much from when I read it before.
