I've wanted to read this series for a long time. And with the movie coming out I knew I wanted to read it before seeing the movie.
I enjoyed the book. The narrator is Ethan. The book takes place in a small town in the South called Gatlin.
A new girl, Lena comes to town. The people in the town hate newcomers. So they are pretty mean to her. But Ethan likes her.
There is a magical element to the book. Lena and her family have powers. I especially enjoyed her uncle Macon (and can't wait to see how he ...more

I couldn't believe how thick this book was when I picked it up. Regardless of the length, I really liked the story. There was a lot happening in this book and it kept me enthralled. Trying to figure out what Lena was and what was happening to her. -I remember when I first got this book. I was at the store and I just picked a random book of the shelf and begged my mother to buy it for me. To be truthfully, I didn't even want it at first. I'm happy I picked this book.

A YA paranormal romance with a male MC is rare, and the way that Garcia and Stohl create a southern small-town is magnificent--perfectly capturing the parallel senses of suffocating closeness and belonging. I'm eagerly anticipating the sequel.

The first of this beautiful , paranormal world that is emmersed in Southern culture is ridiculously amazing!
From the inside cover:
There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
At least, that’s what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong.
There was a curse. There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.
Ethan Wate thought his sleepy town of Gatlin, South Carolina was nothing less than boring. That all changed when the town's recluse niece moved into the town. Nothing was ever the ...more
