I don't think I'm capable of writing a review that truly does this book justice. All I can say is that once again the plot was tense, action-packed, heart-breaking and violently, painfully engrossing.

Katniss Everdeen is definitely a character that I will never forget and easily my favourite in literature. The entire novel, in fact the entire trilogy, is deeply moving and I for one was amazed at the ending, not entirely happy but completely perfect.

Catching Fire left me in shock, and Mockingjay just wowed me. I'm not sure how else to describe it. Mockingjay takes us right into war, and it's not pretty, but when is war ever pretty!?! Suzanne Collins does a brilliant job at bringing to life a darker world with the ugliness of war, the politics, the lies, the suffering and yes, even the small glimmer of hope that comes from a movement backed by a few people, called rebels.

Okay so I have been left once again speechless after reading the last book in the hunger games. I am I don’t even know how to explain…… Okay let’s try from the beginning. I can’t believe district 13 was functioning so fervently. I mean all along they have survived I find that to be crazy. If you have not read this book and don’t like spoilers don’t read anymore! First off Katniss, man was she a traumatized mess in this book. Every other minute she was in the hospital on morphine. I totally understand why, with the way everything ended in book 2. The way they were torturing Peeta OMG, I felt so bad. It was unbearable to see the way he came back and how could barely function. Katniss being the Mockingjay wow. I loved her slogan if we burn you’ll burn with us! That was crazy. I did find the propros kind of annoying after a while and I thought it was bit ridiculous, but hey I guess it’s different world.

I did get one of my wishes, from reading Catching Fire.. I felt in catching fire Prim & Katniss’s relationship was missing there were no sister moments and I got all that in this book! I can’t believe Prim dies!!! I hated that part in the book.. My eyes started tearing up when she was telling Buttercup to go away because Prim was dead. Why did she have to die, I don’t think it was necessary! But I guess that was last straw that made Katniss choose to kill Coin instead of Snow. I wanted to slap the crap from Coin when he was asking them to vote on whether or not to have another Hunger Games. I was like you are kidding me write. Why did Finnick have to die after he finally was able to have his Annie!

One of my other wishes from Catching Fire was more Gale time. Unfortunately that wasn’t given to me the way I wanted. I hated how their relationship just kept going down the crap hole. I knew Katniss was going to end up with Peeta because it was spoiled to me a few months back but I didn’t expect it to happen like that. I really liked Gale from the start and thought they were perfect because they understood each other but I guess that wasn’t enough. I hated how their last conversation ended as well. Without them really knowing if it was his bomb that caused Prim’s death. I felt like they deserved more

Peeta, has grown on me little by little. I do think he’s great for Katniss. He takes care of her in a way no one else. He might not be the strongest and always on the brink of dying but he’s able to save Katniss in different ways. I liked the epilogue of their future together. I thought it was cute and at least ended in a more positive note.

Now my biggest complaint of this book is the plot. For some reason it sucked. I mean the first part of the book is Katniss deciding if she’s going to be the Mockingjay, second part them trying to figure out save Peeta and survive bomb, and last part trying to get to the capitol where Snow is and they don’t even really get there. The last part was the hardest to read. I was really dragging my feet because I didn’t feel there was much progress in the book. I didn’t like how this book was all about war it was sucky no other word. It could have been so much better. Especially on how well written THG & CF .. I was left aghast after CF and I felt cheated with Mockingjay. It just could have been done better. I don’t think it was an appropriate way to end the series. Katniss was pure kickass through books 1 &2 and then she falls completely apart in 3. I just feel like this type of book should have been either made better or should have been the second book in the series. That way the series could have a better ending! Let’s just say if THG & CF were written like this I wouldn’t have continued with the series. I don’t think I would read this book again but I would definitely read the first two in the series. This has been my least favorite.

Okay with all my complaint this book was still good even though there were lots of good people lost. It has an okay ending and let’s face it it’s a dystopian novel so not everything is packaged all pretty with bows and roses. This series has been an epic emotional adventure!

The reason I waited so long to write my review for this book is because I wanted to finish the entire series before reviewing the books, that way, I would have the full picture in mind when I started talking about what I did and did not like about the characters and plot.

Even though I still don’t like this one as much as I did the first Hunger Games book, I loved Mockingjay. This is the story that I was expecting when I read Catching Fire. Even though I still don’t like this one as much as I did the first Hunger Games book, I loved Mockingjay. This is the story that I was expecting when I read Catching Fire. Finally, we get to the part about the rebellion! Even if Katniss didn’t know, I knew immediately that that guy who flashed the mockingjay on his watch was part of some kind of rebel forces. I was very excited when I started reading this book. This kind of story is one of my favorite kinds. It was interesting to see a main character being a kind of figure head for a rebellion instead of a major, major player in one. It was something I was not used to. I was thinking that she would just be thrown right into battle, but I was wrong. The only reason that I gave this book four stars instead of the five I gave to Hunger Games is because there were times when parts felt a little drawn out to me. It might have just been because I was ready for the action, for the big battle that I knew was coming, but I found some of the long chapters about Katniss training to be a little tedious. That is the only complaint I have about the plot. I liked reading about her time in District 13, and I really liked the fact that she was not put on a pedestal. She was treated just like everyone else basically. I also loved that there was not a perfect happy ending. It was a realistic ending and the perfect ending for the series. And this is random, but was I the only one who was worried about Effie while reading this book? She is one of my favorite characters in this series!

Speaking of characters, I really loved Katniss in this book. This book is a prime example of how human this main character is. Instead of magically being all put together and suddenly becoming courageous and able to do anything, Katniss is scared, she is traumatized, she struggles through her battles, and even though things are hard, she works through them. I was still not happy with the love triangle, the way she kept being unsure about who she wanted to be with, but it did not bother me just because she was not always obsessing about it. In fact, it was not mentioned too much. There was more about her family, her struggles to try to be a symbol for the rebellion, and the eventual fight to end the corrupt government that had enslaved Panem. I just loved her. Speaking of love, this is the book where I started to love Gale. Gale was such a strong character. There were times when he came off to me as ruthless and cold, but for the most part, he did his best for the rebellion. I liked that he did not fawn over Katniss. It is clear how he feels, but he is not trailing after her like a lost puppy like… someone else. Since the subject has come up, I am going to briefly touch on Peeta instead of ranting. Peeta is a sweet guy, but I got very tired of him being the damsel in distress the entire time. Personally, I would rather have a guy that can protect and save me than one that I have to constantly worry about and protect. Then again, maybe it would work okay for Katniss since she is such a strong character. Maybe she needs someone to help her relax and to chase away all of the stress.

I realize why Katniss made the decision that she did, and I agree with her decision. After so much death and trauma and fighting, she needed someone who was more calm and doting instead of a guy that basically had the same personality as her. I think that she made the right decision and I am content with the way things turned out. I feel they turned out for the best for everyone.

So in conclusion, I have decided that I am not on either team for either guy in this instance. I like both of them for different reasons and while I lean a little more toward one guy than the other, I would have been happy with whoever Katniss ended up with. Which is a good thing. If there has to be a love triangle, at least I like both of them and there was no way for me to be disappointed with who Katniss got with. I adored this series and I loved going on this journey. I feel like the characters are my friends and it was bittersweet to have to say goodbye to them. I will probably be reading these books again sometime.

I started reading this book wondering "How in the world can the story be wrapped up in just one more book?" I was still wondering the same thing half way through the book. It seemed like there was so much still going on. Suzanne Collins did it though! The book makes you feel a smorgasbord of emotions. I was left in a daze after finishing it.
