What Members Thought

I stayed up until 2:00 a.m. finishing this book last night. Wow! I'm like an Avox: speechless. I think I liked The Hunger Games better overall (I felt a slight letdown when I found out about the Quarter Quell) but the political aspects of this series are fascinating. President Snow and his minions make awesome villains. The character of Katniss is the main reason I love this series, though. She is simultaneously tough and tender-hearted, and I'm amazed by the way in which she repeatedly faces de

Did I think it was possible to have multiple heart attacks while reading this book? No. Did it happen? Hell Yeah! I was completely taken back by the emotions swirling in this book. Half the time I kept saying," Katniss, What are you doing?" in a frustrated voice.
Katniss has won and all seems okay. Except that she has started an uprising and The Capitol is not okay with that. With those consequences they want Katniss to play it off. Make it seem like she really is in love with Peeta. What Katniss ...more

Agh, I love this series. I loved this book and I can't wait to read Mockingjay. I'm actually reading a different book in between this and Mockingjay so I can savor it a little longer. I am going to be sad when the series is over.
Anyway, I guess this is when I should warn that spoilers are coming:
I could not believe that the reaping was being chosen from the pool of existing victors. I was sure that Katniss or Peeta would be a mentor so they both could survive in the end. Because, of course, the ...more

I liked the first book in this series so much. But I don't think this one was as good.
In a way, getting to know the world of Panem and figuring out the characters added some kind of charm to the first book. Already knowing all of the above, this one didn't feel as special.
Also at some points, it was too sad and depressing and had a sense of numbness to it. And it didn't have a different idea from the first one. I mean the circumstances were different but they mostly led to the same points.. Wel ...more

This is the second book in The Hunger Games trilogy. If you read my thoughts on The Hunger Games you know that the book took me by surprise. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it but instead I loved it. I was eager to read Catching Fire, but it sat on my bookshelf for a few weeks. At last the time came and I read it. Let me tell you I was not disappointed. I was a little worried that Catching Fire would lose some of the "fire" that The Hunger Games had. I have read trilogies or series where th

This book catches up with Katniss six months after the Hunger Games. She and Peeta now both have houses in Victor’s Village alongside Haymitch. Just as she and Peeta are about to embark on their Victory Tour through the Districts, Katniss receives a surprise visitor…President Snow. The President tells her that her little stunt in the Hunger Games with the berries was interpreted by the Districts are an act of rebellion and it is up to her to tamp down the revolutionary wind sweeping the country.

Again, I'm not sure what it is about this story that has me liking it but feeling it's lacking in something to make me fall in love with it the way so many others have. I think in a lot of ways it's the main character. I don't find Katniss appealing. She spends so much of the book bouncing around the story in reaction to other characters rather than being centered. The book is certainly gritty and full of horrors with enough excitement to keep the reader going for the next book, that probably co

wow. these books are a must read. they leave me speechless but with so many questions as to what happens next!

What did I think? I'm still reeling. It's been a while since I've read something that I couldn't put down. The Hunger Games was given to me by a dear friend and I'm so glad she introduced me. It's a gut wrenching, brilliantly written, beautiful and tragic story, and I can't wait to sink my teeth into Mockingjay.
