I wanted to say 4 1/2 stars, but, I couldn't get this thing to do that...This was very good...I'm glad that I gave this series a second chance and started it from the beginning because I really didn't love the latest book, "Taken by Midnight," it was ok, but, I thought this one was a bit better....Again the heroine and her whining, over-curiousity, stubborness, and more really irritated me...Almost always walking herself into bad situations throughout the whole book...But, maybe that's what the I wanted to say 4 1/2 stars, but, I couldn't get this thing to do that...This was very good...I'm glad that I gave this series a second chance and started it from the beginning because I really didn't love the latest book, "Taken by Midnight," it was ok, but, I thought this one was a bit better....Again the heroine and her whining, over-curiousity, stubborness, and more really irritated me...Almost always walking herself into bad situations throughout the whole book...But, maybe that's what the author wants to do, frustrate the reader with her heroines...And then our male lead Lucan, loved him in the beginning...But, as I got near the end of the book he was really pissing me off with his stubborness and brooding...They both made me want to scream, both Gabrielle and Lucan throughout the last seven chapters of the book...However, the sex scenes were very steamy, loved them:) And it was nice to be introduced to all of the breed warriors...It felt like she was setting us up for the stories to come within the context of the series...

I listened to this entire book on audio...So the narrator irritated me with her interpretation of Gabrielle and her friends...However, she was pretty good with the males....I think that's why I went ahead and got the book from the book store so I can re-read again and picture my own versions of the characters if you know what I mean...I will say Ms. Adrian has won me over with this debut in the series and I am anxious to continue on and read about all of the other breed warrior's stories...

I have book two on deck to actually read, they didn't have the audiobook in the library for this one, but, they did have Rio's story on audio so I've started that one...I will try to read the second book as soon as I can, but, it's hard right now with the holiday right around the corner...

Verdict...If you love vamps, very hot and sexy ones...than this story is for you...I can't say that I love the female lead, but, one out of two ain't bad...Special thanks to Francesca on here for encouraging me to read this from the beginning if it weren't for her, I don't think I would have gave this series a second chance;) ...more

Here's what I thought..

Characters: I think all the characters' names, attitudes, personalities and everything about them were unique and they pretty much resemble everything I'd think they'd be like. Gabrielle and Lucan are good names. Their not common, but they are not uncommon either. They work perfectly for this book!

Settings: I loved that they had their own "lab". Or pretty much something LIKE a lab. The "scenery" is practically perfect too. They had a park, apartments, a lab with a hideaway ...more
