Wonderful book- the reader finds empathy, if not sympathy, with the main character- A proud, crotchety old woman. Anyone who has ever had to deal with the last years/days of an aged parent, should read this.

And then...

"And then..." are the two simple, ordinary words Margaret Laurence uses to close her minor masterpiece,The Stone Angel to end the life of Hagar Shipley. To make simple words say so much!
